January Trip to Teatro Municipal (by Monica                                                                                                                        Farias)

The week of January 24th was celebrating La XIX Muestra de Cine con Nombre de Mujer at the Teatro Municipal Juan Rodríguez Romero in Dos Hermanas. We took this opportunity to join 4ESO on a trip to the teatro to watch two short films. We were very excited as this would be our first time watching a film in this theater and I know the students were also very excited.

On Wednesday, we all walked together from the school to the teatro which only took about ten minutes. As we waited outside before going in, we took an opportunity to chat with the students and take some pictures. Once we were all inside, the students were eagerly awaiting the start of the films.

The first short film was called Panteres. It was about female body image and the ways in which it is represented. Panteres arises from a look and what can be deduced from it: a girl in a dressing room, the body shapes she sees around her, the way she has decided to shape her external appearance. It was definitely a very interesting and unique film.

The second short film was called Alegría. Alegria lives with her back to her Jewish roots, although since moving to Melilla and settling into the family home it's been no easy task. When she learns that her family is moving into her house to arrange the wedding of her niece to a young man from Melilla, her life is turned upside down. Luckily for her, the young Moroccan girl who helps her at home and her best friend are always ready to help her. The possibility of being reunited with her daughter makes Alegria bear with stoicism and some bad blood the invasion of her home by her family. The wedding preparations will bring to the surface both their differences and everything that unites them.

Both films were so good and in the end we couldn’t decide which one we enjoyed more.

Once the films were over, the students applauded and expressed their enjoyment. Overall, this was a great first experience going to the Teatro Municipal and we are looking forward to enjoying more trips with the students in the future!
